1873 Alumni Speaker Series featuring Bill Mitchell '86

Bill Mitchell is a 1986 graduate from North Georgia College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While attending North Georgia College, Bill was involved in multiple organizations including Sigma Nu Fraternity and Aggressor Platoon. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Artillery Officer in the United States Army. His last duty station was Hanau, West Germany.

Bill is a seasoned restaurant executive with 32 years of U.S. and global operating and franchising experience. His areas of expertise and focused accomplishments within the industry are brand turnarounds, increasing revenues and profits, and creating significant growth opportunities. Most recently, prior to retirement, Bill served on the Board of Directors for Arlon (PE) Investment Group. While serving on the board of directors, he was appointed interim CEO and subsequently CEO of Cici’s Pizza tasked with the turnaround of the brand prior to and through COVID19. 

Prior to Cici’s Pizza, Bill served in a variety of leadership roles at Dunkin’ Brands beginning in August of 2010. In 2011, Bill was a top 5 Executive launching the IPO of Dunkin Brands. He was the President of Dunkin’ Brands International at Dunkin Brands Group, Inc. and Dunkin Donuts LLC, where he was responsible for nearly 8,700 Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbin’s restaurants located in more than 60 countries.

Before joining Dunkin’ Brands Bill spent a decade at Papa John’s International where he served in multiple leadership roles for the $3-billion-dollar, international company. As President of Global Operations his responsibilities included driving domestic and international growth in over 35 countries. Bill also held various management positions at other food service companies including Pepsi Co. /KFC National Management Team and Popeye’s Restaurants.

Bill and his wife, Donna Sue (USMC), spend their time in Louisville, Kentucky, Panama City Beach, Florida, and Dahlonega, Georgia. They have four children, Daniel, Erin, Drew, and Nicholas. Nicholas will be a 2023 high school graduate and plans on attending the University of North Georgia.

Bill is currently serving on two Advisory Boards with Miso Robotics and Loop Media. He is actively involved with Heirborne Ministries in Atlanta, Georgia and The Make a Wish Foundation in Kentucky. Bill also serves UNG as a member of the Mike Cottrell College of Business Advisory Board.
