Executive Director's Update

Membership Monday is upon us!!! On Monday, February 5th the UNG Alumni Association will host our fourth Membership Monday campaign. Our goals is 300 new members by the end of the day!

Your Alumni Association is the voice of alumni to the University of North Georgia. Together, in partnership with the faculty, staff, students, and friends, the Association works hard to engage alumni in the missional work of advancing our great university - always increasing the value of our degree.

We can’t do this alone. For a small membership fee, you will be joining us in this effort, supporting our work to continue to drive UNG to be the best that it can be. Future alumni of UNG will be impacted by the work that we are doing today. Our work is timeless and allows alumni to “pay it forward”, access to programs and services, have pride in our school, acknowledge those alumni that lead, and create a sense of belonging for all, no matter how near or far.

Join us to day at ungalumni.org/ungaa. As alumni, we are all in this together!

Greek Convocation

Greek alumni are invited to Greek Convocation on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 4 PM in Memorial Hall (the old gym) as a show of support for the Greek community at UNG. This gathering is a partnership between the Alumni Association and the UNG Greek Life office. The word “convocation” comes from the Latin convocare meaning "to call/come together" - a translation of the Greek ἐκκλησία ekklēsia – and is a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose, mostly ecclesiastical or academic.

During Convocation, a panel of Greek alumni will speak to the students about their collegiate experiences, bringing a message of unity and support on behalf of all organizations. The panelists, many of whom spoke to the Greek officers in August, will stress the importance of systemwide fraternal unity, while encouraging positive behaviors that will ensure the longevity of the Greek system at UNG. The panelists will also encourage students to engage with Greek alumni through the Alumni Association’s UNGUnite.com portal for the purposes of mentoring and networking as they start thinking about career options and plans after graduation.

It would be extremely moving to have a number of Greek alumni in the audience as a show of support and unity for this first Greek Convocation at UNG. We are stronger together than individually and we all want the same positive outcomes for our collegians. Please plan on coming to campus and joining us if you can! Please reach out to Wendi Huguley at wendi.huguley@ung.edu / 706-864-1545 with questions.

National Leadership Challenge Weekend

The Corps of Cadets will host National Leadership Challenge (NLC) Weekend on 22-24 March 2024 for high school students who are considering a military program in college. See a short video here.

Participants will rappel down a sheer rock cliff at the Army’s Mountain Ranger Training Camp in Dahlonega, construct a rope bridge across a mountain stream, negotiate obstacle and leadership reaction course elements, observe demonstrations by UNG cadet organizations, and meet some of our cadets. They will be assigned to small teams and a current UNG cadets mentor who will guide them through the weekend.

Participants sleep in rustic, 16-person cabins on bunk beds at Camp Wahsega, a 4-H Camp owned by the University System of Georgia, approximately one mile from the Mountain Ranger Camp, and about ten miles from campus. Young men and women will occupy separate cabins.

NLC Weekend is offered twice per year (fall and spring), and space is limited to 200 students. Please see the website for details and registration:  ung.edu/cadet/nlc. Cost is $115/participant.
