Claire Stevenson

Claire is a North Georgia legacy with both her parents, Jane and Joe Kitchens, along with her older sister, Katie Kitchens, having attended and graduated from UNG before her. While attending UNG herself, Claire worked at the UNG Rec Center on the Dahlonega Campus, joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and became a member of the literary honor society of Sigma Tau Delta. She graduated from UNG in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with Teaching Certification. In 2018, she graduated with her Masters in Secondary Education with a concentration in Teaching and Learning, before going on to complete her Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction through Piedmont University. Claire also holds certifications for Gifted Education and Teaching English to speakers of other languages.

She began teaching English and coaching cheerleading at Flowery Branch High School in 2017 before moving to Cherokee Bluff High School upon the school's start in Hall County, where she played an instrumental role in beginning the school’s cheer program. During her four years at CBHS, Claire served as Varsity Football and Basketball Cheerleading Coach, JV Cheerleading Coach, Interim Competition Cheer Coach, FCA Sponsor, and Leadership Team member. As a coach, she was nominated all five years for the Positive Athlete Georgia Coaches Award and was awarded the 2022 Greater Hall FCA Coach of the Year. Additionally, she served as a cheerleading coach for FCA’s East-West games.

In 2022, Claire moved back to her hometown to teach at her alma mater. Upon arriving back to Habersham Central High School, she was appointed Co-Sponsor of FCA, Mock Trial Coach, and SAVE Team Member. That fall she also began her research toward the completion of her doctoral degree through Liberty University, focusing her studies on practices to increase students’ college and career readiness. This fall, Claire was accepted into the Leadership Academy for Habersham County Schools and appointed Yearbook Advisor for HCHS.

Claire continued to give back to UNG by serving as a member of NGCCA and avidly supporting the Corps, joining the UNGAA Board of Directors and serving as Events Chair and Award Committee member, joining Women of UNG Board of Directors as Marketing Chair, and contributing input to various panels and committees as a young alumna. Claire has also served as an Advocate for Rape Response over the last three years, answering their crisis line and accompanying sexual assault survivors for SANE exams. The organization regularly partners with UNG to provide resources on all campuses for sexual assault survivors and UNG students.

Claire’s proudest role with UNG since 2018 has been the Program Organizer for the 1LT Weston Lee Memorial Scholarship, for which she is able to honor her dear friend Weston Cecil Lee’s legacy at the university by promoting his scholarship and raising money each year. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the corps who best exemplifies the same values that Weston lived out. Claire has independently raised over $50,000 for the scholarship to date and plans to continue to do so in honor of her friend and former UNG classmate. Claire’s current goals center around her family as she and her husband, Taylor Stevenson, just welcomed their first son this past July. She hopes to continue to glorify God through all she does as a mother, wife, educator, and leader in her respective communities.
