Sarah Orr

Dr. Sarah Orr received her B.S. in Biology from the University of North Georgia in 2016. During her time in college she was an active member of the Honors Program and Sigma Kappa Sorority. She then went on to earn a Master's degree in Biomedical Science from Mercer University. Her master's thesis revealed novel cellular mechanisms of inorganic mercury intoxication in mammals. Sarah then pursued her PhD in Environmental Toxicology at North Carolina State University and received her doctorate in 2022. Her dissertation was focused on the physiology of aquatic insects, like mayflies, in response to freshwater salinization, an important ecological problem.

Sarah currently works as postdoctoral scholar at Georgia Tech and recently earned a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship from the US Department of Agriculture. Her research is now focused on the effects of pesticides on the developmental genetics of bumblebees. As an aspiring faculty member, Sarah hopes to continue making scientific discoveries and help protect insect pollinators from environmental change. Sarah currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Jackson. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her two cats, Julius and Peach.
